Hitman Scam

A new email scam is threatening the lives of computer users.

Who Is It Targeting: Residents in Southwest Florida

What Is It: Individuals are receiving emails from scammers who are posing as “hitmen” and threatening to kill the recipient unless they make a payment. The victim responds and transfers a payment via wire transfer or “Green Dot” card.

What Are They After: Money, personal identifiable information

How Can You Avoid It: Delete the email and report it to the police immediately. By simply responding to the email, the scammer can capture your IP address and target your computer with malware. Be smart about protecting yourself and your information online to help avoid identity theft from happening to you.
