Immigration Lottery

People interested in immigrating to the United States are being scammed by offerings of a visa.

Scam: Immigration Lottery

Who It Targets: People seeking legal visas to live, work, or go to school in the US

How It Works: Each year, the US State Department holds a drawing for legal documentation to enter the country. It is free to enter, and entering more than once actually disqualifies you. But scammers have been sending out links to a pay-to-enter fraudulent lottery website, hoping their victims don't know that entering the drawing is free.

What To Do: If you or someone you know is interested in a visa to stay in the US, remember that only .gov websites are legitimate government sites. Do not fall for a scam that requires money or lets you pay to enter multiple times.
