IRS Scam Voicemail

Date: 07/21/2017

It’s tough being a scammer…thank goodness for automated tools that make the “work” easier!

Who Is It Targeting: Phone owners

What Is It: IRS scam voicemail

What Are They After: There are a lot of automated tools that make seeking out new victims easier than ever. You may have already received “robocalls” or calls made from auto-dialed software. This software can call thousands of numbers at once, then triggers a recorded message if someone picks up the line.

Now, scammers are even leaving recorded voicemail messages, informing you that you’re in trouble with the IRS. It’s hard to ignore a call like that, but returning their call at the number they provide will only connect you to a scammer.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • The IRS does not initiate any kind of tax proceedings with a phone call.
  • Never return the call at a number provided in the message; look up an official number and call to verify any problems.
  • With the sheer volume of calls that automation makes possible, it’s important to spread the word among your friends and family.
