Police Impersonation Scam                

A con-artist is posing as a police officer to attempt to get people to pay for infractions.

Who Is It Targeting: Residents of Dodge City, Kansas

What It Is: There are reports of a con-artist posing as a police officer and approaching individuals in the community in order to settle out of court for crimes committed. In one case, a woman was approached and told that she could settle out of court for her nephew’s murder of a young pregnant woman. The crime was not real, but the woman attempted to cash out life insurance policies to pay to keep her nephew out of jail.

What Are They After: Money

How Can You Avoid It:  A police officer should never approach someone for payment for a crime.  If this occurs, call your local police department to report it.
