Publisher’s Clearinghouse Scam

It’s nothing new, but it’s back again—beware the multimillion dollar promise.

Who Is It Targeting:  Individuals who receive messages promising enormous prizes

What Is It:  A phishing scam that steals your information and your money

What Are They After: The Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes is a long-standing part of US culture. Unsuspecting winners have joyfully opened their doors to a prize committee holding a giant check for millions of dollars, giving hope to the rest of us that we might be next.

And that’s what scammers are counting on. Criminals have been duping people out of their money for decades under the guise of paying a small fee to claim their winnings from the PCH sweepstakes, but the occurrence of this type of scam is once again on the rise.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • The PCH will never alert you by email, phone, or social media that you’ve won.
  • You will never, ever be told to pay a fee to claim your prize.
