St. Jude’s Scam

Scammers are posing as employees from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in order to solicit fake donations.

Who Is It Targeting: Residents in Indiana

What Is It: Scammers are posing as St. Jude employees and randomly calling individuals hoping they have previously donated to this organization. The scammer then thanks them and  encourages them to continue with their donations by simply giving them their credit card information over the phone.

What Are They After: Credit card information

How Can You Avoid It: Never give credit card information over the phone to unsolicited callers. Falling for this type of scam can put you at risk to be scammed again. Scammers re-sell victim information to other scammers which can make you a target for identity theft. Always research a charity before donating and make the donation to the charity directly. Find a reputable charity online at http://www.charitynavigator.org/

Anyone can be a victim of identity theft, anyone can use our services, and anyone can help us help others. If you found this information useful, please consider donating to the Identity Theft Resource Center to help us keep our services free to the public.
