As of January 31 , the ITRC has reported 27 breaches for 2012.  The ITRC has been tracking breaches since 2005 and updates these reports weekly.

Avoid Getting Hooked in Phishing Scams This Summer

messages, cybercriminals are casting a wider phishing net in the hopes of obtaining personal information from unsuspecting consumers. Experian's ProtectMyID®, recently commissioned a survey to understand the implications of cybercriminals' phishing expeditions. Hackers: Duhhh, Winning

The ITRC has found that hacking accounted for the largest number of breaches in 2011 year-to-date.  Almost 37% of breaches between January 1st and April 5th were due to malicious attacks on computer systems.   This is more than double the amount of targeted attacks reflected in the 2010 ITRC Breach List (17.1%).

Data Breaches in 2010

The ITRC recorded 662 breaches on its 2010 ITRC Breach List. It is apparent, with few exceptions, that there is no transparency when it comes to reporting breaches.

ITRC Consumer Internet Transaction Concerns Survey

Data Breaches 1H 2010

As of June 30th, the ITRC recorded 341 individual breaches

for the first six months of 2010. Unfortunately, hundreds of breaches have been veiled from the public, delayed in publication, or not listed on any public lists. The question still remains: How many breaches and victims are there?

Data Breaches: The Insanity Continues

In 2009, the Identity Theft Resource Center Breach Report recorded 498 breaches, less than the 657 in 2008, more than the 446 in 2007.  Are data breaches increasing or decreasing? That is the question no one can answer.
