Data Breaches: The Insanity Continues

In 2009, the Identity Theft Resource Center Breach Report recorded 498 breaches, less than the 657 in 2008, more than the 446 in 2007.  Are data breaches increasing or decreasing? That is the question no one can answer.

Breach List 2009 Q3

Paper breaches year-to-date 2009 jumped to more than 25% of the total reported breaches tracked by the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC). This compares to 17.7% reported for the year 2008.

OVC Victim Assistance Online Training

The Department of Justice / Office for Victims of Crime announces the launch of its Identity Theft Victim Assistance Online Training Supporting Victims' Financial and Emotional Recovery.  It is now available to be test driven from the OVC TTAC site at www.ovcttac.gov/IdentityTheft/ .  This is a user-friendly e-learning tool that will teach victim service professionals and allied professionals knowledge and skills to more effectively serve victims of identity theft and assist with their financial and emotional recovery.

In February 2009, the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) conducted a survey seeking answers about consumer awareness of data exposure breaches, how they feel about the safety of their personal information when used online, as well as their level of interest in improving their online information safety.

Identity Theft The Aftermath 2008
