Mid-Atlantic Coast Representative
 

Eric Handy is an IT Security and Privacy Specialist with more than 15 years of Information Technology consulting experience.   He specializes in privacy and information security program implementation and program management oversight.   Currently Eric serves as a Consulting Manager with Deloitte & Touche LLP Federal Security & Privacy practice based in Washington D.C.

Eric serves as a volunteer representative for the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), which gives him the opportunity to fight identity theft from the consumer perspective.   In this role he is responsible for assisting and educating victims and organizations in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.   Mr. Handy additionally helps the ITRC to reach out to the business community to raise awareness of the dangers of identity theft in the workplace.

Eric specializes in the area of data protection and identity theft business risk services.   As a result he tackles the identity theft and fraud from a business perspective, and helps determine the amount of risk that a business faces as a result of the current state of its privacy and IT security program.   In order to accomplish this task Mr. Handy applies a risk-based approach performing such tasks as the following:   Data Mapping, Data Flow Diagrams, Identity Theft Incident Response programs, Identity Theft Governance, Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), and IT Security Assessments.   Therefore Mr. Handy’s primary focus is to prevent data breaches that will negatively affect an organization’s bottom line.

As a consultant, he has worked all over the United States on various information technology initiatives including assignments in Zurich, Switzerland and London, England.   Prior to joining Deloitte and Touche LLP, Eric had previously worked at the following companies in various IT and Privacy related positions: General Dynamics, Xerox, BearingPoint, MCI, Verizon, Ameritech, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). As a result Mr. Handy has Industry experience in the following business sectors: telecommunications, high tech, health care, transportation, consumer industrial & manufacturing, and the federal government.

Mr. Handy’s educational experience includes an MBA from Tampa College, B.S. in Finance from the University of Maryland at College Park, and several technical certifications such as the following: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Professional-Industry & Government (CIPP/G), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE).   In addition he is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Information Security at the University of Fairfax with a dissertation focused on identity theft.

In closing Eric is also founder of a faith-based Identity Theft Outreach program to help empower people against various types of technology fraud such as identity theft, computer security, and social engineering attacks.
