Attention Business Owners:
New scam targeting businesses.

If your company conducts commerce online please be aware of this new scam. Thieves will pose as a legitimate company and put in an online request for goods and supplies.

They will often make this request for items that are easily sellable and very hard to trace such as computer equipment. The request will come from a non-corporate email address  , such as Yahoo mail or Gmail. The scammers will often   provide information about the legitimate company they are  impersonating in the letter to make it seem legit imate. This information can include the real web address for the legitimate company’s website, the real address of the legitimate company, etc.

The area code of the contact number they   provide will often differ in location   from that  of the legitimate business, and the  shipping address  will be different than that of the legitimate business.

Be on the look out. If you suspect you may have received an order from one of these scammers, contact the company they are posing as immediately to verify that they have placed the order. You can also contact the credit card company to verify that the card has not been stolen.

If it turns out to be a scam, file a report with your local police department.
