Frequently Asked Questions about the ITRC ID Theft Help App 

1. What does the app do?

The ID Theft Help App provides users with information to assist in the resolution of their identity theft. The information is provided based on answers given by users about their situation. The app also allows users to connect with advisors at the Identity Theft Resource Center for additional assistance. Additionally, users can learn about ways to protect their identity and take quizzes that will inform them about how well they are protecting their identity currently. Users can also keep information about their case in a Case Log, which can be exported at any time.

2. Is the app free?

Yes. The ID Theft Help App is free for consumers. The app was produced by the Identity Theft Resource Center and supported by grant number 2014-XV-BX-K003, awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.

3. Can I use the app to talk with an advisor?

Yes. You can speak with an advisor at any time by clicking on the Contact Us button at the bottom of the app.  You will be able to speak with an advisor via Live Chat or by clicking the toll-free phone number 888.400.5530.

4. What information does the app collect?

All information that is entered into the Case Log is saved on the mobile device. The Identity Theft Resource Center does not have access to the information saved in your Case Log. However, you should never store any personal identifying information, such as your Social Security number, in the app as it may put your information at risk if your phone is lost or stolen.

5. How do I export my case log?

Android: The Case Log can be exported by clicking the ‘Export Case Log’ button at the bottom of the Case Log screen. You will then be asked how you want to complete the action by using a variety of methods such as putting the information in an email or converting it to a memo.

iPhone: The Case Log can be exported by clicking the ‘Export Case Log’ button at the bottom of the Case Log screen. Once you click on the button you can choose where you want to export your Case Log to such as an email or the notes app.

6. I am having trouble with the app. Who can I contact?

If you are having trouble with the app you can call the Identity Theft Resource Center and speak with an advisor at 888.400.5530.
