The Department of Motor Vehicles in Georgia has reported a new phishing scam targeting holders of a Georgia state driver's license.

Who Is It Targeting: Residents of the state of Georgia

What Is It: Individuals with a driver's license in the state of Georgia are being targeted by a new phishing scam.  In the scam the target will receive an email stating that they must submit their Drivers License Number ,name and address immediately or their license will become suspended.  The email looks as though it comes from the Department of Motor Vehicles and claims that the individual is receiving the request to verify their information. 

What Are They After: Personal Information

How Can You Avoid It: The Department of Motor Vehicles in Georgia will never request personal information in an email. Therefore, if you receive an email claiming to be from them asking for personal information, simply delete it.  In addition if the email links to a website other than www.dds.ga.gov, this is also a sign that you are experiencing a phishing attempt.  If you have responded to the email and provided them with your information contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in Georgia at (678) 413-8400.  You may also call the ITRC for free assistance to protect yourself from identity theft at 888.400.5530.
