Mobile Payment #IDTheftChat

Each month, the Identity Theft Resource Center hosts an informative Twitter chat on some topic surrounding the issue of identity theft. In November, we will be hosting our monthly Twitter chat on Thursday, November 5th, at 3pm EDT / 12pm PDT.

Our topic this month is mobile payments and how they affect the daily lives of consumers. We’ll also discuss the future of this technology and address questions that many people are asking as we move into this new method of payment technology.

We will be joined by our co-hosts mSIGNIA and the Smart Card Alliance who will be answering both the questions we have already prepared and any questions participants may have. The Smart Card Alliance is a multi-industry organization whose mission is to advance knowledge, adoption, and usage of smart card technology, while mSIGNIA offers fraud prevention which takes aim at identity fraud, using mobile device reputation analysis and multifactor authentication to verify customers.

Mobile payment technology has been around for some time, but is rapidly developing both in how it is used and how widespread it is becoming.  With the power to accept payments right in the palm of a merchant's hand, paying has never been easier, but consumers need to stay educated on the issue to keep themselves and their identities safe.

Some of the questions we’ll address in this helpful chat include:

  • What are biometrics?
  • How can biometrics be used to protect our identities?
  • What are some issues with biometric adoption by the general public?
  • How do people feel about using biometrics?
  • Where is biometric technology already being used that may surprise us?
  • How can companies use biometrics to protect their customers?
  • What does the future hold for biometrics?
  • What are some resources to learn more about biometrics?

In order to take part, users must simply log into their Twitter accounts at the appointed date and time and follow the #IDTheftChat hashtag. For your convenience, you may also log into the TweetChat platform by going to http://tweetchat.com/room/IDTheftChat after signing into your Twitter account. Be sure to type “#IDTheftChat” at the end of each of your tweets so that others may see your comments and questions, and search for that hashtag to read all of the information on the topic of mobile payments. This Anyvite form will let you RSVP, view questions and sign up to receive a reminder just before the event.

Be sure to also follow the Identity Theft Resource Center on Twitter (@ITRCSD) for great information that will help you stay educated on this issue and more  throughout the year.
