What Is It: Phishing scam that steals your financial information

What Are They After: In this scam, callers reach out to consumers with offers of high-dollar prescription drugs for a tiny fraction of their cost. You’re told you qualified for this special program for being a pharmacy customer, or because it’s being offered in your community as a test market, or any other plausible reason. Once the caller has your financial information—presumably to bill you for your lower-cost name brand prescriptions—they use it to pile up thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges.

How Can You Avoid It:

• If there is a legitimate prescription drug savings plan, you will be informed about it through genuine means and required to sign up.
• Drug companies and pharmacies do not cold call the public, hoping to sell inexpensive prescription drugs.
• Never give out your financial information or your personal data to someone who contacts you.
