Don’t click on that link that appears to come from the Federal Trade Commission.

Who Is It Targeting: Email users

What Is It: A phishing scam that gets you to click a malicious link

What Are They After: In this phishing scam, criminals send out emails that appear to come from the Federal Trade Commission. The claim is that the FTC has taken action against some company or other (which is work that the FTC actually is involved in) and that you’re entitled to your portion of the settlement. All they need is your bank account information in order to transfer your funds to you.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • Never click a link or open an attachment in an email if you weren’t expecting it, no matter who it appears to come from.
  • Never give out your bank account information to a caller or someone who emails.
  • If you receive an email like this one, forward it to spam@uce.gov.
