More than half of small businesses have suffered a data or security breach, according to the new 2021 Business Aftermath Report.”

About the ITRC Business Aftermath Study

On October 27,  2021, the ITRC released its first-ever report on the impacts of identity crimes and cyberattacks on small businesses. Read the full press release here.

Cyberattacks and the resulting security and data breaches can have a devastating effect on any business. However, small organizations and solopreneurs often lack the resources to prevent or defend against cybercrimes. The 2021 Business Aftermath Report is the first major independent, publiclyreported research into what happens specifically to small businesses following a data or security breach.

For the 2021 Business Aftermath Report, 417 small business leaders and 1,050 general consumers responded to questions in two separate surveys about the impacts of cybercrimes on small businesses as defined by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
