Who Is It Targeting: Seniors enrolling in Medicare
What Is It: Scammers are taking advantage during Medicare open enrollment, October 15 – December 7, in order to steal social security numbers. Seniors are receiving phone calls from scammers posing as federal employees from Medicare and claiming they are issuing new cards but first they need to verify the social security number on the card.
What Are They After: Personal information
How Can You Avoid It:
- Medicare will never call and ask for personal information.
- In the event, your Medicare card is lost or stolen, report it to Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.
