Who Is It Targeting: Residents across the United States

What Is It:  Police are warning individuals across multiple states of a scam circulating in the mail that poses as a congratulatory letter about winning the lottery. The letter gives directions to wire transfer a large sum of money in order to “secure” their winnings.

What Are They After: Money

How Can You Avoid It:

  • Although the letterhead looks legitimate, officials suggest to contact the agency directly.
  • Report a scam to your local police.
