There are many ways that scammers target seniors where their grandkids are concerned.

Who Is It Targeting: Grandparents

What Is It: Phishing scam that goes after money

What Are They After: A new grandparent scam that has recently been reported includes a child being stranded and needing money for a new transmission or another car part, so the mechanic is kind enough to call you and ask for the money.

How Can You Avoid It:

  • In these instances, the victim is often directed to go purchase gift cards or send a wire transfer with the money.
  • Contact your relatives and make sure the child in question is okay.
  • Don’t forget to file a police report if you’re ever contacted for this or any other scam.
