Don’t click that pop-up warning…the box IS the threat!
Who Is It Targeting: iPhone users
What Is It: A phishing attack disguised as a virus warning
What Are They After: iPhone users have reported receiving pop-up warnings on their phones’ screens, warning them that their device has been infected. Some of the reports say the popup tells them to click here to download a specific removal app, while others even say it must be downloaded from the Google Play store—which isn’t even compatible with iPhones. Clicking on the link, however, actually installs the malware on your phone.
How Can You Avoid It:
- Never click a link or button in a popup box unless you were expecting it.
- This same tactic has been used on laptops, PCs, and tablets, so beware.
- If you get a popup box, simply close it or navigate away from it without clicking on it.
