The email states that the individuals payment was not able to be processed and the company needs more information to process the payment. The emails asks for the individuals full name, username, password, Social Security number and more personal information.

What Are They After: Personal Information

How Can You Avoid It: If you receive an email from a company stating that there has been a problem with the payment on your account, you should call the company.  Do not call them using the phone number provided in the email, but rather search for the company’s information either from a past bill or online. No legitimate company will ask you for personal information such as Social Security numbers or passwords via email. If you are sure that you have received a phishing email, such as this, simply delete it. If you have already given them your personal information, call the Identity Theft Resource Center at 888.400.5530 to see what steps you should take to protect yourself.
