Scammers are targeting Yahoo! users with fake contest winnings.

Who Is It Targeting: Yahoo! email users

What Is It:  Yahoo! users are receiving scam emails with the subject “Yahoo Promotion” stating they have won a contest. Typically, victims are either requested to provide account information in order to receive their winnings or  exposed to malware by clicking on links within the email.

What Are They After: Personal Identifiable Information, Account Information

How Can You Avoid It:  You cannot win a contest you did not enter. Major email providers do not have random lotteries, promotions or contests. If you receive a scam email like this, do not respond or click on any links. Report the email to the Federal Trade Commission and Yahoo!. Never give money or account information in response to an unexpected email.
