Identity Theft Resource Center’s Response to COVID-19
At the heart of everything the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) does is our mission: to empower and guide consumers, victims, businesses and government to minimize risk and mitigate the impact of identity compromise and crime. Addressing the needs of our various stakeholders, as well as the health and well-being of our team members are two of our highest priorities. Effective immediately, we are taking steps to ensure our staff continues to provide the best possible victim services in this time of national emergency.
The ITRC has implemented a remote work policy. The contact center continues to be available to anyone who thinks they may be a victim of an identity compromise or crime, but response times may increase due to the nature of working remotely. If you need assistance, you will be able to speak with a live expert advisor toll-free at 888.400.5530 or through the live chat feature on our website Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific.
Additionally, the ITRC has seen a rise in coronavirus-related scams targeting both businesses and consumers. Tips for workers who telecommute during this time are available to help ensure remote workers practice safe computing while they are away from their work place. This isn’t a new scam pattern: it appears every time there is a major event that takes people out of their normal routine. It happens with natural disasters, financial crises, and other community-based, newsworthy events.
The ITRC’s executives continue to monitor the developing public health situation and are prepared to take the actions required to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while continuing to ensure access to our support services and expert knowledge. The ITRC will also provide up-to-date information and resources to address any emerging fraud issues as they become known.
We are committed to helping reduce the risk factors associated with identity crimes and we are dedicated to serving the public wherever we are, through whatever means available. It is our pleasure to continue to serve you to the best of our ability in these extraordinary times.
