James E. Lee, Chief Operating Officer of the Identity Theft Resource Center, breaks down the findings in the 2023 Business Impact Report by ITRC

  • The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) recently released its annual Business Impact Report. For the report, the ITRC surveyed 551 small business owners, leaders and employees to explore the impacts of cybercrimes on small businesses.
  • According to the responses, cybersecurity incidents targeting small businesses reported were a record-high (73 percent) in the three-year history of the BIR. Despite the record number of attacks, 85 percent of respondents said they were ready to respond to a cyber event, up from 70 percent in 2022.
  • Also, the financial impacts of cyber breaches continued to drop compared to previous years, with more small businesses reporting losses under $250,000 and fewer reporting higher dollar-value events.
  • ITRC Chief Operating Officer James E. Lee sat down and discussed the findings from the 2023 Business Impact Report by ITRC.
