Eva Velasquez, President and CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center, breaks down the findings in the 2022 Trends in Identity Report by ITRC

  • The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) recently released its annual Trends in Identity Report, which looks at the trends in identity based on information from the victims that contact the ITRC.
  • According to the report, in 2022, most reported identity misuse was due to existing account takeover (61 percent – 3,637 victims).
  • Also, most victims who contacted the ITRC about compromised identities were impacted by a Google Voice scam (61 percent – 4,081 victims). Social media takeover was still the top type of account takeover.
  • ITRC President and CEO Eva Velasquez sat down and discussed the findings from the 2022 Trends in Identity Report by ITRC.
  • You can learn more about the 2022 Trends in Identity Report by ITRC and other topics discussed in the podcast by visiting our company website, idtheftcenter.org. You can download the report by clicking on our publications section.

Below is a transcript and webinar of our podcast with Eva Velasquez, President and CEO of the Identity Theft Resource Center

Welcome to The Fraudian Slip, the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast, where we talk about all things identity compromise, crime and fraud that impact people and businesses. Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, SoundCloud, Audible and Amazon now.

Normally, we would introduce a topic, a guest expert and our President and CEO, Eva Velasquez. However, this month, we are doing something a little bit different. This week, we published our 2022 Trends in Identity Report by ITRC, which looks at the trends in identity based on information from the victims that contact the ITRC. For the report, the ITRC examined the wide range of identity crimes committed against people as reported by the victims of the crimes.

Eva presented the findings from this year’s study in a webinar which, through the miracles of technology, we have in a link below as this week’s podcast.
