Home Help Center AuthenticID – ITRC Predictions for 2025
AuthenticID talks with the Identity Theft Resource Center in the newest Fraudian Slip podcast about what happened in 2024 and what is in store for 2025
- In 2024, the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) predicted that the risk of AI-driven identity scams that impact large numbers of people would be over-stated while the potential for targeted attacks on single or small groups of individuals would be underestimated.
- The ITRC’s also predicted new levels of identity crime in 2024 with an unprecedented number of data breaches in 2023 and that more states would adopt comprehensive privacy laws while Congress would not.
- The Center thought privacy concerns over the use of biometrics would overshadow legitimate use cases and that the emotional toll of identity crimes would continue to increase. At the same time, assistance providers would struggle to meet the needs of victims.
- The ITRC’s predictions for 2025 include a boom in the cybercrime job market and the number of identity crimes, a reduction in support for victims and law enforcement, as well as a drop in criminal fines and forfeitures earmarked to help victims.
- The ITRC sat down with Blair Cohen of AuthenticID and the ITRC’s Board of Directors to recap the ITRC’s 2024 predictions, whether they came true and to look ahead to what we expect in 2025.
