Intellectual Technology, Inc. talks with the Identity Theft Resource Center about equity and accessibility through biometrics and Driver’s License identity theft

  • In the last four decades, technological advances have produced new forms of biometrics like DNA analysis, retina scans, etc. It’s led to a lot of discussion around biometrics.
  • The Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC) sat down with Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI)to discuss several biometric-related topics. In Part 1 of our two-part series, we discussed concerns and solutions around biometrics. In Part 2, we continue the conversation and also talk about Driver’s License identity theft.
  • We discuss an uptick in Driver’s License identity theft and the recent MOVEit ransomware attack that exposed the entire Driver’s and auto-owner databases for at least two states.
  • You can learn more about biometrics, the abuse of Driver’s License information and other topics discussed in this podcast by visiting our company website idtheftcenter.org.
  • If you think you are the victim of an identity crime, call the ITRC toll-free by phone (888.400.5530) or live chat on our webpage to speak with an expert advisor.

Below is a transcript of Part 2 of our podcast with special guest Stephen Smith, Sr. Vice President of Business and Strategy at Intellectual Technology, Inc.

Welcome to The Fraudian Slip, the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast, where we talk about all things identity compromise, crime and fraud that impact people and businesses. Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, SoundCloud, Audible, and Amazon now. Last month in Part 1 of our series on the use of biometrics, we focused on the different kinds of biometrics and the various uses for biometrics. In particular, we looked at facial recognition – comparing your face to a DMV photo in real-time to prove you are who you say you are to prevent identity fraud. This ties into Driver’s License identity theft and the second part of our conversation.

In Part 2 and our final episode on the topic, we focus less on the technical aspect of biometrics and more on the policies and procedures needed to ensure we get the maximum benefits from these tools. We also break down the rise in Driver’s License identity theft.

Returning is Stephen Smith from Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI), a company that provides software to motor vehicle agencies to increase the speed, visibility and security of transactions, and ITRC President and CEO Eva Velasquez.

We talked with Stephen Smith about the following:

  • The ITRC recently reported a big uptick in Driver’s License information misuse. Also, the recent MOVEit ransomware attack exposed the entire Drivers and auto-owners databases for at least two states. What do you see in terms of fraud as a company that works to secure driver data?
  • How do biometrics benefit people who are not tech-savvy or who don’t have access to digital tools?

We talked with Eva Velasquez about the following:

  • How do biometrics benefit people who are not tech-savvy or who don’t have access to digital tools?
